Last night I was laying in bed. All the lights had been turned off and I was trying to fall asleep. I couldn't get comfortable enough to doze off, so I picked up my remote to my bed (yes, I said bed. We have a sleep number and I love it). You have the option of making the bed soft or hard. I needed to pump mine up just a bit and the light came on when I punched the up button. It was a weird moment...
When I was a child, 15 or so, my parents bought each of us kids an electric blanket for Christmas. I would stare at the control box, the only light in the room, for a while until I finally feel asleep. My blanket was normally set at an 8 and I would alternate closing each eye, camera one camera two.. I stared at that 8, and then tried to see how many of the other numbers I could see by holding the control box a certain way.
I don't know why that little light gave me comfort. Almost like staring at it soothed me enough that I could go to sleep, so last night after a wonderful trip to the sink throwing up acid in my stomach (which by the way is the first time this pregnancy that it happened) I was feeling not at ease, so when my little light on my sleep number bed came on I was soothed but for a brief moment. Once it reaches the number you want it at the light shuts off and the comfort went away. I thought my husband might get a little bugged if I kept pumping up and deflating my bed in the middle of the night, so I stared at the alarm clock hoping to get the same effect. I was tired and wanted to sleep. It kind of worked, but my stomach hurt so much it was hard to sleep.
Odd, how little things in your life bring you that comfort... who would have thought a light from an electric blanket would help me. Do you have anything that helps soothe you at night... or day.. or whenever?
