In the dictionary joy is described as:
1. Great happiness: feelings of great happiness or pleasure, especially of an elevated or spiritual kind.I also looked up some of the synonyms of joy. When I first typed joy into the thesaurus words like delight, happiness, pleasure, enjoyment, bliss ecstasy, elation, and thrill came up. I really wanted more descriptive words on joy so I clicked on delight and found word that spoke to my heart. The word was savor (enjoy something unhurriedly). If you combine the two words joy & savor you have what I've been looking for. Savor joy!
2. Something that brings happiness: a pleasurable aspect of something or source of happiness.
3. Enjoy something: to delight in something
I want to enjoy life unhurriedly.
Now the question is, how do I do that? How do I enjoy life/myself/family/house unhurriedly? Well, yesterday I decided to take the day off. I still cleaned some. I did the dishes, I oiled some of my cabinets, washed down the front of the bathroom cupboard doors, but I wasn't in a hurry to move quickly. I didn't feel like cleaning (getting the whole house picked up) or exercising so I didn't. About mid day I looked at my self in the mirror and started the self deprecating thoughts. Thoughts that reminded me that I'm not good enough, smart enough, thin enough, worth enough but this time, though, I stopped myself. If I am trying to bring myself more joy then having negative thoughts about myself isn't going to help. I looked at myself one final time in the mirror and then walked away.
I spent the rest of the day in an unhurried state. This morning after I laid my son down for a nap I sat on the couch and read an article from the Ensign. I am going to slow down. Enjoy myself, my family, and my life. Hope you can too.
