I have a new obsession and it is called You Are What You Eat. It is a brilliant show on BBC America. The premise of the show is based on people that are overweight. A nutritionist, Gillian Mckeith, comes into the home and assesses what the overweight person is eating. She raids the cupboards, the fridges, and pantry and basically tells you how it is. Basically 50% of the population is fat and it is because we overeat. Overeating wouldn't be bad if you were over eating on crisp carrots, beans, lentils, grains, but we aren't. The amount of processed foods that we consume is frightening. Really, it is scary to realize what refined sugars do to your body. Did you know that the body has no use for white sugar? The sugar that the body uses is what it gets from fruits and veggies, in other words, the natural sugars. If you eat mass amounts of processed sugar you will have cellulite. I don't mean just fat, I mean the curdled cheese fat that you get on your bum and thighs and belly.
Zinc, which you get in pumpkin seeds and other veggies that I can't quite remember, help with PMS, sex drive and moods swings. Brown rice mixed into a nice rice pudding, made with rice milk helps with the sugar cravings. The more fish you get the better your liver will be. It is an amazing show. Very educational and if you have the station--BBC Amercia-- you should watch, or netflix, or something because it is amazing. I watch it when I walk on the treadmill. It keeps me motivated to continue walking, plus it gives me and education about what I am putting into my body. Freaking brilliant.
It's Eves fault really. She wrote a blog about what she was going to do for one week and in it she mentioned eating one fruit and one vegetable. I thought, now that is something I can do. I can eat that in one day, and then I don't feel so overwhelmed with changing everything right now. So I started with that. I wanted to join weight watchers again but the price was daunting as was the food. I don't like artificial preservatives in my food. I just want to eat more healthy. Then another friend of mine told me about this website. I started tracking what I was eating based on calories, and did you know that 1500 calories can come and go quicker than you think? Then I decided I was going to walk on the treadmill. I really only want to walk for 20 mins because I am lazy, but I pushed myself to30. After my 30 min walk/jog I get off and do a few arm reps and some crunches....all while watching You are What You Eat.
Really, Eve, this is your fault..but I thank you. Even Cevin has decided that what he is eating needs to be changed. Tonight for dinner we have the best Cajun salmon with brown rice and a green spinach - lettuce salad. Yum, yum to my tum tum!
